Michael Cathcart - U.S. Military Fatality in Afghanistan

Michael Cathcart
Sgt. 1st Class Michael A. Cathcart, age 31, of Bay City, Michigan, died on November 14, 2014, in Kunduz Province, Afghanistan, of wounds received from small arms fire while on dismounted combat operations.

He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne), Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

Michael graduated from Bay City Central High School and enlisted in the Army in 2001. 

Michael had served two tours of duty in Iraq in 2003 and 2005. He volunteered for the Special Forces in 2007 and joined the 3rd Special Forces Group in 2009 as an engineer. 

He received many awards during his career including three Bronze Stars, the Purple Heart Medal and four Army Commendation Medals. 

Friends describe Mike as a true hero. He will be forever missed.

Michael's military comrades are in mourning over the death of their brother. Military officials describe him as one of the nation's finest and a man who died a true warrior. He had a contagious smile and a helpful demeanor. He also loved to play hockey. He will be forever remembered. 

Michael's family members are devastated by his sudden and tragic death. He will be forever mourned.

Michael is survived by many loving comrades, friends and relatives including but limited to his mother, Jeanne Cathcart and his sister, Trishia.

Thank you for serving, Mike. 

Pray without ceasing unto God for an end to this war in Afghanistan. It is enough. We are sick with grief for men like Michael.

Pray that Michael is in heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
