Edwin Roman-Acevedo - Law Enforcement - San Juan, Puerto Rico

Agent Edwin Roman-Acevedo, age 36, died on November 26, 2014, at a hospital in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico.

Agent Roman-Acevedo was a member of the San Juan Police Department. He had 10 years of service.

In the evening of November 26th, Edwin was off duty as a police officer. He was in the parking lot of a pharmacy where his wife works, in Trujillo Alto, when he noticed two armed men approaching the entrance. He identified himself as an officer and a struggle with the two men ensued. They wanted to grab his weapon.

During the struggle one of the men shot Officer Roman-Acevedo but he was able to maintain control of his weapon and returned fire. One of the suspects was wounded and both managed to flee the scene.

Edwin was rushed to a nearby hospital where sadly he succumbed to his injuries.

One of the suspects, David Aponte Villalba, age 22, was taken into custody when he went to a local hospital for treatment of his wounds.

The San Juan Police Department is in mourning over the death of their brother. He will be forever remembered.

Edwin's loved ones are devastated over his sudden and tragic death. He will be forever mourned.

Edwin is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members including his wife and child.

Thank you for your service to the community, Edwin.

Pray for all who die suddenly. They are with us one moment and are gone before we can say goodbye.

God save us from the thieves. They are killing us, Father.

Pray that Edwin is in heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
