Stephen Byus - American Contractor - killed in Afghanistan

Stephen Byus
Stephen Byus, age 39, of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, died on September 16, 2014, in Kabul, Afghanistan.

Stephen Byus worked as a civilian employee at the Defense Supply Center in Columbus, Ohio, and went to Afghanistan in August of 2014.  He was working as a supply specialist and was helping with logistics and training.

Stephen was a Lieutenant in the Navy Reserves.

At about 8:00 a.m. on September 16, a Taliban suicide bomber drove a vehicle loaded with explosives into a foreign military convoy near the American Special Operations base, killing Stephen Byus, Major Michael Donahue and a Polish soldier.

Steve grew up in Wellston, Ohio and graduated from Wellston High School in 1993. 

He is described by military comrades as a family man, a mentor and a role model. He went the extra mile for others. He will be forever remembered. 

Steve's family members are devastated by his sudden and tragic death.  They describe him as a good guy who was cheerful and helpful to others.  He will be

Steve is survived by many loving comrades, friends and relatives including his parents, 3 brothers; his wife, Valerie; and their children, Alexandria and Jacob.

Thank you for your service to your country, Stephen.  

Pray without ceasing unto God for an end to this war in Afghanistan. It is enough. We are sick with grief for men like Stephen.

Pray that Stephen is in heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
