David Norton - a Good Samaritan in Indiana

The Good Samaritan comes
to the aid of the strangers,
selflessly.
David Norton of Cicero, Indiana, came to the aid of strangers on August 23, 2014, in Noblesville, Indiana.

Noblesville is a city located just north of Indianapolis and has a population of 52,000.

At about 1:30 p.m., a woman, who is unnamed, was with her two children who were playing on the banks of the White River. Recent rains had swollen the river by 4 feet and there was a rapid current.  In May of this year, a 13 year old boy had drowned in this river when he accidentally fell in.

The woman's son fell into the river and within a second or two was five feet out from shore.

The woman jumped into the water in an attempt to reach her child.  Her daughter also jumped into the river to save her mother and her brother.

Both kids are of elementary school age.

The daughter was able to grab a tree branch and held on waiting for rescue. The mother and the son were drifting downstream.

David Norton and others of his family were walking nearby when they heard screams for help.  David jumped into the river.  David's wife called 911.

David swam to the woman and her child but only after they had drifted about 150 feet from where the boy first fell into the river. David managed to pull them both to safety.

Police and Firefighters were able to grab the girl clinging to the tree branch.

No one was injured in this incident and no one was hospitalized.

David Norton left the scene without fanfare and without comment, other than to say he was going home to relax.

David is a Good Samaritan.  Good Samaritans are the heroes of the modern era.

God bless David Norton and all who come to the aid of strangers. Amen.
