Xinran Ji - a Chinese Student beaten to death in Los Angeles

Xinran Ji
Xinran Ji, age 24, died on July 24, 2014, at his apartment in Los Angeles, California.

Xinran is a Chinese name and is pronounced in English as "Shinran".

Xinran was a student at the University of Southern California.

At about 1:45 a.m., he was walking to his off-campus apartment after a group study session when he was attacked by four or five persons in a robbery attempt. They battered him with a baseball bat and a large wrench. He was beaten severely when he fought against his attackers and was then beaten a second time.

It is believed that his assailants then drove to Playa Del Rey and committed another robbery.

Xinran left a trail of blood on the street but managed to get to this apartment. His room-mate later found him dead of his injuries.  It takes a lot to kill a 24 year old man.  He was literally beaten to death.

All five of the assailants were later taken into custody and four are being held in connection with Xinran Ji's death.

Jonathan DelCarmen, age 19; Andrew Garcia, age 18; Alberto Ochoa, age 17; and Alejandra Guerrero, age 16; face one count of murder each in connection with Xinran Ji's death. They may also face robbery charges. The fifth suspect is a 14 year old girl who is being held in connection with the robbery at Playa Del Rey. However, it is believed that she too may have been involved in the beating of Xinran Ji.

The 19 and 18 year old male suspects could face the death penalty. They will certainly face

the prospect of life in prison if proven guilty. These men have thrown away their lives on a whim.

Their girlfriends have, through their actions, given up the prospect of having a real job, being wives,
mothers, having a home and living a useful and a happy life.

Regret can last a lifetime.

Fellow students at the University expressed concern that random attacks often happen on the streets in their vicinity. It could have been anyone who was attacked.

It is a sad fact of life, world-wide, that women and men cannot walk the streets in the dark and expect to be safe from attack from thieves, rapists and drunk or drugged up wing-nuts. Walking on city streets in the dead of night is no longer an option in any city. If you are walking on the street, in the dark, you are 10 seconds away from savagery.

Xinran's loved ones are devastated over his senseless and tragic death. He will be forever mourned.

Xinran is survived by many loving friends in America and family members in China.

Pray for justice for Xinran.

God save us from the thieves and the psychopaths. They are killing us, Father.

Pray that Xinran is in heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
