Deric Rasmussen - U.S. Military

Deric Rasmussen
Chief Warrant Officer Deric M. Rasmussen, age 33, of Oceanside, California, died on May 11, 2014, in Mazar E Sharif, Afghanistan, as the result of a non-combat incident.

He was assigned to Company C, 1st Battalion, 227th Aviation Regiment, 1st Air Cavalry Brigade, Fort Hood, Texas.

The cause of his death is under investigation.

Deric grew up in Storm Lake, Iowa and graduated from Storm Lake High School in 1999. He attended Iowa State University for a year and joined the Marines in 2000. He left the Marines in 2003 and joined the Army.

He wanted to make the military his long term career. He wanted to be a helicopter pilot.

He was deployed to Iraq from March of 2007 to September of 2007 and began his tour

in Afghanistan in January of 2014.

Deric's wife and 3 very young children live in Killeen, Texas. He has never met his youngest child who is only 6 weeks old. 

Deric's family are devastated by his sudden death.  He will be forever mourned.

Family members describe Deric as a fun-loving young man with a strong commitment to his family and to the military.

Deric is survived by many loving comrades, friends and relatives including his parents, Philip and Diane Rasmussen; his sister, Jennifer Donner; his wife, Jennavieve, and his three children - 4 years old, 2 years old and 6 weeks old.

Thank you for serving, Deric. 

Pray for all who die young in a foreign land.

Pray that Deric is in heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
