Sgt. Carlos Lazaney-Rodriguez - U.S. Military

Carlos Lazaney-Rodriguez
Sgt. Carlos Lazaney-Rodriguez, age 38, died on April 2, 2014, while on duty at Fort Hood, Texas.

He was shot by Spc. Ivan Lopez, age 34, who also shot and killed 2 other soldiers and wounded 16 more during an apparent mental meltdown. He was either suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or some other very serious mental disorder. He had exchanged words with several other soldiers, then went and got a gun and started shooting. Ivan Lopez later committed suicide.

Carlos was a unit supply sergeant. He had served a tour of duty in Kuwait and two tours in Iraq.

He was from Aguadilla, Puerto Rico.

He entered the military in January of 1994. He was assigned to the 21st Combat Support Hospital, 1st Medical Brigade in February of 2012 where he served as a unit supply sergeant.

He was planning on retiring later in 2014. 


Carlos had received numerous  award and decorations during his 20 year career,

including four Army Commendation Medals, three Army 
Achievement Medals, Army Superior Unit Award, six Army Good Conduct Medals and an Iraq Campaign Medal with two Campaign Stars and many others. 

The family of Carlos are devastated over his sudden and senseless death. He will be forever mourned.

Military comrades stated that Carlos was a true leader who was concerned about the well-being of his fellow soldiers. He always led by example. He was tough but caring.

Carlos is survived by many loving friends and family members.

Thank you for serving, Carlos.

Pray for all who die by misadventure. They are with us one moment and gone the next.

God save us from the Lost Ones who bring death to strangers. They are killing us, Father.

Pray that Carlos is in heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
