Jose Tamayo |
In the afternoon of April 20, 2014, Jose and his wife and three children were in San Leandro, walking along the waterfront. They heard a girl crying out: Help! Help!
He entered the water, grabbed the girl and pulled her to shore. He then plunged back in because he thought that he saw another person flailing about, further out in the ocean.
He found a boy, age 7, face down in the water. He dragged him back to shore as well.
The boy was limp and turning blue from lack of oxygen.
The Good Samaritan comes to the aid of strangers, selflessly. |
This coastal area is not a great place to swim. It is rocky and is a deep water area with currents.
The Alameda Fire Department performed first aid and CPR and took the boy to the hospital.
The First Responders stated that Jose Tamayo saved the boy's life. In reality, Jose was the First Responder.

Jose said that anybody would do the same and that he is not a hero.
But of course, he is a hero.
Heroes are those men who step up to the plate and come to the aid of strangers, thereby putting their own lives at risk.
God bless Jose Tamayo. Amen.
