Robert Woody Wudkevich - a Good Samaritan who saved a boy in Cuba

Robert Wudkevich, age 52, of Nelson, British Columbia, was on holidays in Varadero, Cuba, during the third week of March, 2014.

He is known as Woody to his friends.

On March 19, 2014, he was asleep on the beach at a resort when he was awoken by a stranger who said that a man and a child needed help.

Yue Liu, age 40, of Ottawa, and his son, Connor, age 7, were playing in the ocean when an undertow pulled them into deeper water. Yue Liu called out for help as he tried to hold his son's head above water.

and bring him to shore. He saw that a wave had taken the boy's father further out.

Other bystanders swam out to pull the father back to shore. He could not be revived and sadly he died at the scene.

Yue Liu was originally from Beijing, China and had immigrated to Canada in search of a better life. He was employed in the field of Internet Technology. He is described as a loving son, husband and father.

Yue Liu is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his elderly parents in China; his wife, Fanyan Bu; and his young son and daughter.

Pray for all who die by misadventure. They are with us one moment and gone the next.

Pray that Yue Liu is in heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
