Edwin Lance Wentzel - Firefighter - Pennsylvania

Firefighter Edwin Wentzel, age 57, died in the line of duty on March 22, 2014, at a bridge in North Versailles, Pennsylvania.

Edwin was known as Lance to his family and friends.

Lance was a member of the Youngwood Volunteer Fire Department. He had 35 years of service.

A woman in North Versailles went missing and her cell phone and coat were found along train tracks under the Westinghouse Bridge in North Versailles. Lance was participating in a search for the missing woman.

At about 5:45 p.m., Lance stepped in front of a train and died at the scene.

Lance joined the Volunteer Fire Department in 1979 and was named Firefighter of the Year in 2012.

The Fire Department is in mourning over the death of their comrade who will be greatly missed. Lance was an asset to the Department and to his community. He is

described as a terrific firefighter. Even in death he served his community through the donation of his organs.

Lance worked for Scott Electric in Southwest Greensburg for 35 years. He was into volunteering and marathons.

Lance was a member of the Lutheran Church.

Lance is survived by many loving comrades, friends and relatives including his brother, Philip; sisters - Judith, Connie, Bonnie and Doris; his wife Judith; his sons Jeffrey and Christopher; and his stepsons Justin and Jason.

Pray for all who die by misadventure. They are with us one moment and gone the next.
