Richard Holloway - British Military

Captain Richard Holloway, age 29, from County Durham, died in the line of duty on December 23, 2013, while on military operations east of Kabul, Afghanistan.

Captain Holloway was a member of the Royal Engineers.

Family members describe Richard as an exceptional young man, a perfectionist in everything he did, who embraced life to the full.

He loved serving in the Royal Engineers and loved traveling to distant places.

He enjoyed physical activity including surfing, kayaking, canoeing, mountain-biking and climbing. He wanted to be part of the action.

His family are very proud of him and will forever miss him.

He is also described as humble, self-confident, an effective leader and popular. He was trustworthy, loyal and dedicated to his friends and comrades.

Richard is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his parents, Jaquie and Neil; his brother, Luke; and his girlfriend, Sandy.

Thank you for serving, Richard.

Pray without ceasing unto God for an end to this war in Afghanistan. It is enough. We are sick with grief for men like Richard.

Pray that Richard is in heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
