Cuauhtemoc Estrada - Law Enforcement - Illinois

Investigator Cuauhtemoc Estrada, age 50, died on December 20, 2013, at a medical center in a suburb of Chicago, Illinois.

Officer Estrada was a member of the Cook County Sheriff's Department. He had 20 years of service.

Cuauhtemoc was off duty and was attending a Christmas party at a social hall in Bellwood. At about 7:30 p.m., he stepped outside and observed an armed robbery taking place in the parking lot. His daughter and her boyfriend were being robbed by two males. Cuauhtemoc identified himself and was reaching for his service weapon when he was shot once in the chest.

He was transported to Loyola University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Two suspects in connection with Investigator Estrada's murder were apprehended two days later.

Cuauhtemoc was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran.

Family members describe him as a good guy who was an overall family man. He is also described as a good father who was always there for his kids. He wanted them to succeed in life.

Still others stated that Cuauhtemoc organized fundraisers and block parties and

fought hard to clean up the streets in his community.

Police officials describe him as one of their best investigators who was devoted to his profession.

Cuauhtemoc is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members including 4 children.
