Bashar Al-Assad - still killing his citizens in the Syrian Civil War

At least 76 people, including 28 children, were killed in Aleppo, Syria on December 15, 2013.

Bashar Al-Assad's aircraft are now dropping "barrel bombs" on opposition areas in Syria. Barrel bombs contain hundreds of kilograms of explosives and cause massive damage on impact.  His forces bomb civilian targets - apartment buildings, hospitals, bakeries, grocery stores and anywhere that will inflict the most damage.

The United Nations does not step in because they are afraid of a massive, deadly and costly conflict if they do.  They are also afraid of the rebels. Will they be worse than the Dictator Al-Assad?  Only God knows.

In the meantime, the United Nations wants member countries to donate $6 1/2 billion U.S. towards aiding Syrians refugees who have been displaced within their own country or who have fled the country to escape the conflict.

2.3 million Syrians have fled to Lebanon, Jordan, Turkey, Iraq and Egypt. That number is expected to climb to 4.1 million refugees in 2014.  Many of these refugees are living in squalid conditions.  Some of the "streets" in the refugee camps are just open sewers of human waste or mud pits.

The World Health Organization is gravely concerned about outbreaks of polio, hepatitis, measles, cholera, typhoid, leishmaniasis and tuberculosis. A massive clean-up and vaccination program is needed for these 2.3 million Syrians living in camps. This effort requires money.

It is ironic that the United Nations would call for $6.5 billion to fund aid for Syrians when this is just about the exact amount that Bashar Al-Assad has reportedly stolen from his people and syphoned off to Russian bank accounts in his own name.  This is his "rainy day" fund in the event he has to flee from Syria.

The Syrian government and its opponents are scheduled to meet in Switzerland on January 22, 2014, to hold peace talks. Expectations for a resolution are low.

Pray for an end to this conflict in Syria.

Pray for an end to Bashar Al-Assad.  He is a mass murderer and a thief.

Pray for an end to all dictators.  Amen.

God help us. Amen.
