Richard Vazquez - U.S. Military

Staff Sgt. Richard L. Vazquez, age 28, of Seguin, Texas, died on November 13, 2013, in Kandahar, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when his unit was attacked with an improvised explosive device while on dismounted patrol in Panjwai, Afghanistan.

He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne), Eglin Air Force Base, Florida.

This was his third deployment.

Family members stated that Richard loved defending his country. He is their hero and is a hero of the United States of America. They are proud of him.

Richard graduated from Seguin High School in 2004. He was a member of the Matador Football Team.

After graduation he went straight to the military.

Family members and friends said that he was well known and well loved. He was friendly and open to strangers. Everyone was a potential friend. He was kind to everybody.

mountains, going to Colombia, doing sniper training, and other military training. He felt that when you dedicate your life to something, you give it your all.

Richard is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his parents, Ted Vazquez and Teresa Paddie; and his siblings, Romario, Celza, Christine and Isabel.

Thank you for serving, Richard.

Pray without ceasing unto God for an end to this war in Afghanistan. It is enough. We are sick with grief for men like Richard.

Pray that Richard is in heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
