Renisha McBride - a teenaged victim of America's Gun Culture - Michigan

Renisha McBride, age 19, died on November 2, 2013, on the front porch of a house in Dearborn Heights, Michigan.

Dearborn Heights is a city in Wayne County, in the Detroit metropolitan area. The population was 57,774 in the 2010 census.

Renisha McBride is black. She was out on a Friday night and after midnight she was in some sort of car accident. Her cell phone died and she wanted to place a call.

She was travelling through a largely white middle class neighbourhood when the accident happened. At around 2:30 a.m., she walked to a nearby house and started knocking on the door. It is believed that she wanted to use the phone or in some way get help.

The exact circumstances of this tragedy are not known as of this posting. However, Renisha was shot in the back of the head by the homeowner who is a man in his 50's. She died.

The homeowner apparently shot Renisha in self-defense thinking she was a criminal.

This whole incident is bogus and many people are culpable in this tragedy.

Renisha may have been impaired with alcohol or drugs. She may have been
Hi there.  Welcome to Dearborn Heights
aggressive in her knocking on this door. However, it has been reported that no glass was broken and the door was not kicked at. Renisha should have flagged down a passing car for help or walked to a local 24 hour convenience store or anything other than banging on doors in the middle of the night. Did she really think that people were going to be happy to come to her aid in the dead of night in this city?

And then the homeowner.....Who hears banging at their door in the middle of the night and opens the door? Who goes to their front door at 2:30 a.m., carrying a gun? Who sees someone outside their front door, knocking or banging or hollering, and doesn't call the police first? What man in his 50's is afraid of a teenaged woman? Who shoots someone in the back of the head; someone who is walking away from you?

This incident is a symbol of the state of America's gun culture. You shoot first and ask questions later. If you are pissed off with your life, you go into a mall and start shooting. If your wife is annoying you, you shoot her.  Ticked off with your co-workers, blow them away.

Jesus, Mary, all saints and all angels pray for us.

Renisha is survived by many loving friends and relatives.

Pray for all who are murdered. They are with us one moment and gone the next. Amen.

God save us from the gun-freaks.  They are killing us, Father.  Amen.

Pray that Renisha is in heaven. Pray that she is at peace and is with God. Amen.
