Carlos Vigil - Gay teen bullied to suicide in New Mexico

Carlos Vigil, age 17, of Valencia County, New Mexico, died on July 16, 2013, at a hospital in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

On July 13, 2013, he had attempted suicide and was put on life support. His family, under great anguish, removed life support on July 16, 2013, and he passed away.

Carlos was gay and was bullied since he was eight years old. Before his suicide attempt, he wrote on his Twitter page that:

“The kids in school are right, I am a loser, a freak and a fag and in no way is that acceptable for people to deal with.”

He was a senior at Valley High School in Albuquerque. He had transferred there from Los Lunas High School, in Los Lunas, New Mexico, to escape the bullying but to no avail.

At both high schools, he had been teased for being gay, as well as his weight, his acne and having a lazy eye.

His family had pleaded with legislators to pass stronger anti-bullying laws, also seemingly to no avail. His family states that bullying drove him over the edge.

Carlos had just returned from a trip to North Carolina where he was helping to lobby for an anti-bullying bill there. He had not been happy with the outcome of that trip.

If you are a person who is thinking of committing suicide, please don't. In the U.S., call 1-800-273-8255 for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline or call The Trevor Project at 866-488-7386. There are many people out there who are willing to help you.

Saint Bernadette of Lourdes,
who said "I am ground like
a grain of wheat", pray
for Carlos and all who are
ground down by torment.
Parents in New Mexico - where are your nasty brats and what are they doing to each other?  Do you care?

It is also time that the Catholic Church takes a stand to support gays and particularly gay teens who are suffering abuse in this world. The Vatican has to stop partying like it's 1399 A.D., and get into the 21st century.

God save us from the conservatives of all religions (including the Protestant churches) who try to drag us kicking and screaming back to the Dark Ages. We've been there, done that.

Carlos is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his mother and father, Ray and Jacqueline Vigil.

Pray for all who die as teenagers. They barely had a chance to live. Amen.

Pray for all who are tormented to death. Amen.

Pray that Carlos is in heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
