Bruce Jacobs - Law Enforcement - Mississippi

Police Officer Bruce Jacobs, age 35, died in the line of duty on July 20, 2013, on a highway near Jackson, Mississippi.

Bruce was a member of the Jackson Police Department. He was stationed at Precinct 4. He had five years of service.

Officer Jacobs was responding to a call that a barbecue grill had fallen from a vehicle and was blocking part of a local highway. At about 1:30 p.m., the officer was attempting to put the grill into the trunk of his patrol car when he was struck from behind by another vehicle.

Bruce was transported to University of Mississippi Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the vehicle that struck him was also transported to the hospital with injuries.

He had entered Jackson's Police Academy in 2009.

The Police Department is in mourning over his sudden and tragic death. 

Friends describe him as having a sense of humor and a friendly demeanor.  He is also described as a hard worker and an achiever.  He was well liked and was an over-all good guy. 

Comrades stated that he was right there when anyone needed backup.  

Bruce is survived by many loving friends and relatives.
