Steven Netherland - Law Enforcement - Louisiana

Deputy Sheriff Steven Netherland, age 54, of Simpson, Louisiana, died on June 24, 2013, on a highway in Vernon Parish, Louisiana.

He was a member of the Vernon Parish Sheriff's Office. He had one year of service with the Department. He had previously retired from the Louisiana State Police after 22 years of service.

He was on his way to work in the morning when he lost control of his vehicle in a construction zone. He crossed the center line and exited the left side of the roadway before hitting two dirt compactors and a large roadway stabilizer.  He was ejected

from the vehicle and died at the scene of the collision.

Police officials describe Steven as a very good deputy and a super nice guy.  He went above and beyond,  not just with his job, but with people in general. 


Steven is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his wife and daughter.
