Kathlynn Shepard - murdered in Iowa

Kathlynn Shepard
Kathlynn Shepard, age 15, died on May 20, 2013, when she went missing in Iowa.

Her body was found on June 7, 2013, in the Des Moines River near Boone, Iowa.

Kathlynn vanished after getting off her school bus in Dayton, Iowa. She and a 12 year old girl, Dezirea Hughes, were approached by a stranger, Michael Klunder, age 42, who offered them money to mow lawns.  He then took them to a remote location and zip-tied their hands.

Desirea managed to escape. She stated "He left the gun on
Michael Klunder
the floor so I grabbed the gun and ran outside to the woods and hid."

That evening, Michael Klunder was found dead at a home in rural Dayton having committed suicide by hanging himself.

Michael Klunder had a history of criminal charges. In 1992, he was convicted of two kidnappings and assaults. In the first instance he kidnapped a 21-year-old woman. The next day, he abducted two three-year old girls in Charles City. He was sentenced to 41 years in prison but was released in 2010.

Why did the Iowa Parole Board let this man out after 18 years when he was sentenced to 41 years in prison? Did they have a psychiatric evaluation on him when they let him loose? Kidnappers and abductors have a serious mental problem. This is not what normal men do and abductions are not crimes of passion nor robberies. They are often planned in advance and are usually sexual in nature. This man should never have been released before his sentence was over.

Family members of Kathlynn are deeply grieving her passing. She is described as
Father, place Kathlynn on
the Stairway to Heaven
innocent, caring and fun loving. She was just a kid.

Kathlynn is survived by many loving friends and relatives who will forever miss her.

God save us from the psychopaths who stalk the Earth stealing away life. They are the Lost Ones. They are killing us, Father. Amen.

Pray that Kathlynn is in heaven. Pray that she is at peace and is with God. Amen.
