Joel was a member of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission.
Joel and Sheriff Cody Carpenter, of the Scott County Sheriff's Office, were assisting victims of an overnight flash flood along the Fourche LaFave River. The residents of the house had called 911 asking for help.
Joel and Cody both exited the boat they were in and entered the home to assist two female victims who were trapped inside. The flood crushed the house and in the confusion Joel and Cody were swept away and drowned.
