Cody Carpenter - Law Enforcement - Arkansas

Sheriff Cody Carpenter died in the line of duty on May 31, 2013, in the Fourche LaFave River near Y City, Arkansas.

Cody was a member of the Scott County Sheriff's Office. He had 16 years of service. He was vice chairman of the Arkansas Sheriff’s Association.

Cody and a State Wildlife Officer, Joel Campora, were assisting victims of an overnight flash flood along the Fourche LaFave River. The residents of the house had called 911 asking for help.

Cody and Joel both exited the boat they were in and entered the home to assist two female victims who were trapped inside. The flood crushed the house and in the confusion Cody and Joel were swept away. It is unknown as of this posting what happened to the two women.

Police Officials stated that the Department is in mourning over the death of Cody.

Cody was raised in the county seat at Waldron. He started with the Sheriff’s Office in

1996. In 2004, he was elected sheriff and then kept the job in four subsequent elections. He stated that it was all about trying to improve the county they all lived in.

State officials who knew Cody personally stated that he demonstrated professionalism, courtesy and dedication to Scott County residents every day.

Cody is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his wife Amie and his four children - Garren, Christian, Douglas and Irelynn.
