Stéphane Duval - French Military

Corporal Stéphane Duval, age 32, died on April 29, 2013, in northern Mali, Africa.

He died of wounds sustained when his vehicle struck an improvised explosive device

Corporal Duval was from the 1st Marine Infantry Parachute Regiment in the French Army’s Special Forces Brigade.

France launched a military intervention in January of 2013 to quash Al-Qaeda-linked groups that had taken control of northern Mali. France has begun withdrawing its 4,500 troops deployed in Mali and handing over the reins to a 6,300-strong force, the International Mission for Support to Mali (MISMA).

Stéphane had joined the Army in 2002. He had served missions in Gabon, Guyana, Ivory Coast, Afghanistan, Burkina Faso and then Mali.

He had previously stated that he loved his life in the military, and loved his wife and

Military officials describe him as a professional man with remarkable military qualities.

Stéphane is survived by many loving friends and family, including his wife, and two young children, a boy and a girl. His daughter was born in December of 2012.

Thank you for serving, Stéphane.

Let us pray that Stéphane is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
