He was home for the Spring Break holiday. He studied in Portland, Oregon.
He had been out on Saturday night and was walking with a friend and was almost at his door when an unidentified man approached the two and demanded to know what gang they were with. The man then fatally shot Jacob and fled the scene. Police have not made any arrests, and the investigation is ongoing, as of this posting.
Police believe the murderer mistook Jacob for a rival gang member.
Jacob had graduated from Archbishop Riordan High School in San Francisco. He was currently attending Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon, where he studied economics on a football scholarship, and played wide receiver.
Friends describe him as a good kid, not a gang member, who was just trying to live his life and have a future.
Others said that he was well-known, popular and an inspiration to everyone.
Still others describe him as hard-working, polite and humble.

Jacob is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his parents, Carlos and Margarita Valdiviezo.
