Rex Schad

Staff Sgt. Rex L. Schad, age 26, of Edmond, Oklahoma, died on March 11, 2013, in Jalrez District, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained when he was attacked by small arms fire.

He was shot by an Afghan police officer.

He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 69th Armor Regiment, 1st Armor Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Georgia.

Rex graduated from Edmond Memorial High School in 2005.

This was his second deployment to Afghanistan. 

Family members stated that Rex liked playing the guitar and running in marathons.  He rose to every challenge put before him. He stood up for the underdog and against bullying.  He will be forever missed.

He was due to come home in July of 2013. 

Rex is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his mother Colleen Whipple and his brother, Max Whipple. 

Pray for all who die in the line of duty.
