Nicolas Checque

Petty Officer 1st Class Nicolas D. Checque, age 28, of Monroeville, Pennsylvania, died on December 9, 2012, of combat related injuries suffered on December 8, 2012, while supporting operations near Kabul, Afghanistan. 

Nicolas was shot while engaged in the rescue operation of an American Doctor who was held hostage. 

Nicolas Checque was assigned to an East Coast-based Naval Special Warfare unit.

He was known as "Nick" to his family and friends.

Nicolas was a graduate of Norwin High School in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania. He is described as an excellent student. He enlisted in October of 2002 and entered the Navy‘s Special Warfare training in April of 2003.

He had been in the Navy for 10 years and was a Navy SEAL. He had previously been deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan and had earned a Bronze Star. 

Regarding Nicolas' death, President Obama stated “He gave his life for his fellow Americans, and he and his teammates remind us once more of the selfless service that allows our nation to stay strong, safe, and free.”

Friends describe Nicolas as focused, determined and dedicated. He was living the life that he always wanted to live. He had always wanted to be a Navy SEAL. He is also described as hard-working and an achiever. 

Nicolas is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his mother, Sandra; father, David; and sisters Ashley and Tuesdae.

Let us pray that Nicolas Checque is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
