Jacob Schlereth

Sgt. 1st Class Jacob Schlereth, age 31, of Opelika, Alabama, died suddenly of natural causes on November 27, 2012, at Fort Benning, Georgia. 

Jake was born in the Michigan community of Saginaw and previously lived in Vassar, Michigan, which is about 70 miles northwest of Detroit.

He graduated from Vassar High School in 1999. He joined the Army afterward and was stationed most of his career at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. He more recently was stationed at Fort Benning as a reconnaissance course instructor.

He had deployed once to Iraq and twice to Afghanistan. 

He had received two bronze stars, among other military honors. 

Friends describe him as a fun, caring man. 

Jacob is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his wife, Margaret; and his young son, Caleb. 

Thank you for serving, Jake. 

Pray for all who die young. Amen. 

Let us pray that Jacob Schlereth is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
