Darren Linde

Sgt. 1st Class Darren M. Linde, age 41, of Devils Lake, North Dakota, died on December 3, 2012, of wounds sustained when his vehicle struck an improvised explosive device in Afghanistan.

He was a member of the North Dakota National Guard - 818th Engineer Company.

Darren grew up in Sidney, Montana, before moving to Devils Lake. 

Darren enlisted in the North Dakota Guard in 1990. He served in the U.S. Army and Montana Army National Guard before returning to the North Dakota Guard in 2006. Since 2009, he served as a full-time instructor with the Guard's 164th Regional Training Institute, at the Camp Grafton Training Center near Devils Lake.

His military specialties include work as a combat engineer, cannon crewmember and bridge crewmember.

He also deployed to Iraq with the Guard's 164th Engineer Battalion from August 2007 to April 2008.

Military officials stated that they are saddened by the death of Darren. 

Darren is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his mother and father, Lana and Dwight Linde; his wife, Adrienne; and four children.
