Richard Halford - Law Enforcement - Georgia

Police Officer Richard Halford, age 48, of Lithia Springs, Georgia, died in the line of duty on November 3, 2012, in Atlanta, Georgia.

Richard was a member of the Atlanta Police Department. He had 26 years of service. 

He had been with the Air Unit for more than 16 years, serving as a pilot. Officer Halford had also served in the Department’s Zone 4 precinct, the Motor and DUI units.

He was the pilot of a helicopter, searching for a missing 9 year old boy in an area approximately 4 miles west of downtown Atlanta.

At about 10:30 p.m., the helicopter crashed and exploded, killing Richard and another officer.

The missing boy was found wandering the streets a few hours later.

Police officials stated that Richard died honorably serving the citizens and the Police Department.

Richard is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his former wife and his 21 year old daughter.
