Matthew Sitton

Staff Sgt. Matthew S. Sitton, age 26, of Largo, Florida, died on August 2, 2012, in Kandahar province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when he encountered an enemy improvised explosive device.

He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

Matt was a 2004 graduate of Indian Rocks Christian School in Largo. He joined the Army on March 2, 2006 as an Infantryman, attending Basic Training and Airborne School at Ft. Benning, Georgia. He joined
the 4th Brigade in August of 2007. This was his second combat deployment to Afghanistan.

Military officials describe Matt as a proficient leader who was well respected by those who served beside him. It was also stated that he had a no nonsense approach to accomplishing tasks. 

Matt's awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart, the Army Commendation Medal with one oak leaf cluster, the Army Achievement Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal with one knot, the National Defense Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with a campaign star, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Ribbon with the numeral two, the NATO medal, the Combat Action Badge, the Expert Infantryman Badge and the Parachutist Badge. 

He was due to return home in a month. 

Matthew is survived by many loving friends and relatives, including his parents Steve and Cheryl Sitton; sister, Jessica; brothers Jonny and Cody; his wife Sarah; and their 9 month old son, Brodey.

Let us pray that Matthew Sitton is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen
