Jeremiah Goodson - Law Enforcement - North Carolina

Police Officer Jeremiah Goodson, age 32, died on July 17, 2012, in Lumberton, North Carolina.

Jeremiah was a member of the Lumberton Police Department. He had 6 years of service.

He had transferred to the police department from public works in 2006, and had been employed with the City since 2000.

Jeremiah was off duty at a gas station and recognized a man as having outstanding warrants. He called the police department and notified other officers of the subject's location. Another officer arrived and the two began to approach the car the subject was sitting in. The man opened fire from inside the vehicle, striking Jeremiah in the chest. The second officer and other responding units took the man into custody.

He was transported to a local medical center where he passed away.

Jeremiah was assigned as a resource officer at Lumberton High School and also worked in the gang unit.

Jeremiah is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his wife and one child. His wife is expecting their second child.

Pray for all officers who die upholding the law, even when they are off-duty. These are the true heroes.

Let us pray that Jeremiah Goodson is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen
