Derek Pineo - R.C.M.P. - Saskatchewan

Constable Derek Pineo, age 38, died on July 20, 2012, in the line of duty, on a highway near Wilkie, Saskatchewan, Canada.

Derek was a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (R.C.M.P) based at Wilkie, Saskatchewan. He had 5 years of service.

Derek was killed in a single vehicle crash when his patrol car struck a moose on a rural highway at approximately 2:00 am. He was the only person in the vehicle. He was declared dead at the scene of the accident.

Moose, Deer and
Elk are everywhere
in Canada and the U.S.A.
and can be on any road.
Derek had only been posted to the Wilkie R.C.M.P. detachment about a month ago. His first posting was at Nipawin, Saskatchewan.

Derek grew up in Fall River, Nova Scotia. Derek's family lives in Saskatchewan and Nova Scotia.

Family members describe Derek as a fun loving person who enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Derek is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his parents, his wife and three children.

There are 4 to 8 large animal vehicle collisions every hour on highways in Canada. This results in many deaths of innocent drivers. There are many more large animal collisions per hour in the U.S.A.

Michael, Archangel,
Patron Saint of the Police,
pray for Derek
Motorists are simply driving along and suddenly an elk, moose or deer bounds out of the forest at the side of the road and crashes into a vehicle, killing the driver.

Pray for those who die in the line of duty.

Pray for all who die young and suddenly. They are with us one moment and tragically gone the next.

Let us pray that Derek Pineo is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen
