Michelle Shegelski - Security Guard - Alberta, Canada

Security Guard Michelle Shegelski, age 26, died on June 15, 2012, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

She and two male security personnel were shot and killed during an early morning robbery of an armoured vehicle at a Mall at the campus of the University of Alberta in Edmonton. Another security guard was severely wounded.

Michelle was an employee of G4S Security. She had worked for this company since 2008. She was training new officers on procedures at the time of her death.

Mary, pray for Michelle
and for Victor who has
lost his bride
The shooting took place after midnight inside the HUB Mall, which contains retail stores and restaurants on the first floor and several storeys of student residences. The north end of the mall, where the shooting took place, has at least four automated teller machines in a small area.

It is believed that the security officers were loading automated banking machines with cash when they were attacked by another security guard, a co-worker, who attempted to rob them of the money. The suspect in the murders is Travis Brandon Baumgartner, age 21, who has been arrested.

Family members describe Michelle as a lovely person who was fun loving but serious about her work.  She loved the mountains, skiing and was training for a triathlon. She was married only two months ago to her husband.

Michelle is survived by many loving friends and relatives including her husband, Victor Shegelski.

Pray for all who are killed while performing their jobs.

God save us from the thieves who steal away our lives. Amen.

Let us pray that Michelle Shegelski is in heaven. Let us pray that she is at peace and is with God. Amen.
