Gerardo Campos

Spc. Gerardo Campos, age 23, of Miami, Florida, died on June 2, 2012, in Maiwand, Afghanistan, when enemy forces attacked his unit with small arms fire. 

He was assigned to the 4th Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington.

Gerardo joined the Army in March of 2010 and was assigned to the 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team later that year. This was his first deployment.

Military officials describe Gerardo as a friend you could always count on; with a high level of maturity for his age, and a man who displayed the potential to become a future Sergeant Major in the Army.

Family members describe Gerardo as their hero - a good, honest and brave man who will be forever missed.

His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon, the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, the NATO Medal, and the Parachutist Badge. 

Gerardo is survived by many loving friends and relatives including 4 siblings; his wife and 10 month old daughter. 

Let us pray that Gerardo Campos is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
