Brent McCarthy

British Corporal Brent John McCarthy, age 25, died on May 12, 2012, in the Lashkar Gah district of Helmand Province, Afghanistan. 

Brent was a member of the Royal Air Force. He was known to his friends as "Mac".

He and another soldier were providing security for a meeting with local officials when two people wearing Afghan police uniforms opened fire on them, killing them both. One of the policemen was shot dead in an ensuing gunfight and the other fled and has yet to be caught.

Brent was born into a Service family in Hannover, Germany, joined the Royal Air Force in 2008, training at RAF Halton and the Defence College of Policing and Guarding at Southwick Park.

Military officials describe Brent as a professional and tough soldier who had an unbeatable smile and a sense of humour.

Family members stated that Brent was a loving and sensitive young man. He excelled at sports and had his whole life ahead of him.  They also stated that Brent loved his family dearly and that he is their hero, who will be forever missed and never forgotten.

Brent is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his father, John; mother, Sarah; sister, Jodie, and his partner Sarah. 

Let us pray that Brent McCarthy is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
