Robert Neary - Firefighter - Pennsylvania

Firefighter Lt. Robert Neary, age 60, died in the line of duty on April 9, 2012, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Robert was a member of the Philadelphia Fire Department - Ladder Company 10. He had 37 years of service. 

Robert was battling a massive blaze at an abandoned warehouse when an adjacent furniture store he and others were inspecting collapsed, burying them in a pile of debris. He died at the scene of the fire.

He had served in the Army reserves from 1972 to 1982 and worked as a city police officer for 3 years before joining the fire department. 

Robert Neary had been awarded four unit citations during his career. 

Fire Department officials describe Robert as a mentor to younger firefighters, a great guy and knowledgeable.

He was planning to retire soon. 

Robert is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his wife, Diane; two grown sons and a grown daughter.

Pray for all who die in the line of duty.
