Barbara Pill - Law Enforcement - Florida

Deputy Sheriff Barbara Pill, age 53, died in the line of duty on March 6, 2012, in Melbourne, Florida.

Barbara was a member of the Brevard County Sheriff's Office. She had 15 years of service with the department and had a total of 30 years of service in law enforcement.

She was shot after stopping a vehicle in Melbourne, shortly before 11:15 am. The vehicle was wanted in connection with a stolen property call from a local motel. As Deputy Pill made contact with the driver and ordered him out of the vehicle he opened fire on her, striking her multiple times. Responding deputies, Melbourne police officers, and Florida troopers chased the vehicle a short distance until it crashed. A male and female subject in the vehicle were taken into custody and face charges in connection with Deputy Pill's murder. Deputy Pill was transported to the Holmes Regional Medical Center where she succumbed to the gunshot wound.
Michael, Archangel,
Patron Saint of the Police,
pray for Barbara

Police officials describe Barbara as a very highly decorated deputy sheriff, who was the the kind of person who is always engaged, was reliable and was one of the kindest, nicest people you would ever want to meet.

Friends stated that Barbara had a passion for helping others. She often volunteered with a number of community youth programs, and worked to help steer at-risk kids in the right direction. Others describe her as dedicated, professional and helpful.

Barbara is survived by many loving friends and relatives including her husband; two sons who are also in law enforcement, and a grandchild.

Pray for all who die in the line of duty.

Let us pray to God the Father, Jesus, all of the saints and all of the angels that Barbara Pill is in heaven. Let us pray that she is at peace and is with God. Amen
