He was a volunteer member of the Gore Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department, Virginia. He had one year of service.
Zach died in a single vehicle highway accident. Zach and his father, were driving a tanker truck and were heading to pick up water before responding to a fire in Hampshire County, West Virginia. Gore Firefighters were operating at this fire through mutual aid between States.

Hazardous and icy road conditions may have contributed to the accident. It is believed that Zach was thrown out of the tanker when the accident happened.
He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead of his injuries.
The Gore Volunteer Fire Department is devastated by this news.
Zach is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his father, Donald Whitacre.
Let us pray to God the Father, Jesus, all of the saints and all of the angels that Zach Whitacre is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen
