Kurt Kern

Spc. Kurt W. Kern, age 24, of McAllen, Texas, died on December 27, 2011, in Paktia, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device.

He was assigned to the 720th Military Police Battalion, 89th Military Police Brigade, Fort Hood, Texas. 

Kurt graduated in 2006 from McAllen Memorial High School, where he played football. Kurt joined the military in September 2009 after studying at the Texas Culinary Academy in Austin.

Family members stated that he was proud to be a soldier and really loved his job. They also said that he had an ever-present smile and a positive outlook on life. Kurt was loved by all who knew him. He loved to joke, and his presence always brightened the room. He always put others before himself and did everything he could to help those who needed it. They said that Kurt is their hero.

Friends stated that Kurt was a great guy and a humble man. 

Kurt is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his mother and two siblings.

Let us pray to God the Father, Jesus, all of the saints and all of the angels that Kurt Kern is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen
