Christopher Muniz

Sgt. Christopher L. Muniz, age 24, of New Cuyama, California, died on December 11, 2011, in Kunar province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device. 

Christopher was a member of the 3rd Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.

He graduated from Cuyama Valley High School in 2006. High School officials describe him as a strong athlete and all around good kid, who was a true leader. He is also described as loyal and hard-working.

He had enlisted in the Army on Nov. 13, 2008, as a signal intelligence analyst. This was his first overseas deployment.

Christopher will posthumously be awarded a Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, NATO Medal and the Combat Action Badge. His other awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Bronze Service Star, Global War on Terrorism Medal and the Army Service Ribbon.

Christopher is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his parents Joseph Muniz and Barbara Kalp. Christopher is also survived by his wife who he married 18 months ago. 

Let us pray to God the Father, Jesus, all of the saints and all of the angels that Christopher Muniz is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen
