Michael D. Elm

Spc. Michael D. Elm, age 25, of Phoenix, Arizona, died on October 14, 2011, in Khowst, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device. 

He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Knox, Kentucky. 

Michael graduated from Phoenix’s Greenway High School in 2004 before beginning his military service in February 2009. He moved to Fort Knox a few months later in June. This was his first deployment.

Friends describe him as a brave man. 

Michael's awards and decorations include the Army Achievement Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terror Medal and the Army Service Ribbon, according to the Pentagon. He has also been awarded the Army Good Conduct Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Bronze Star Medal and Purple Heart posthumously.

Let us pray to God the Father, Jesus, all of the saints and all of the angels that Michael D. Elm is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
