Benjamin Schmidt

Marine Lance Cpl. Benjamin W. Schmidt, age 24, of San Antonio, Texas, was killed in Afghanistan on October 6, 2011.

He was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, California.

He died from a gunshot would to the head, while on patrol. 

He was a 2006 graduate of Alamo Heights High School, where he played football. Benjamin had just begun his second deployment in Afghanistan in September. He was scheduled to end his deployment in May of 2012.

Family members stated that Ben was proud to serve his country.

Benjamin is survived by numerous loving friends and relatives including his father, Dr. David Schmidt; mother Becky Whetstone; his sister Casey; and his girlfriend, Taylor Ryan.

Let us pray to God the Father, Jesus, all of the saints and all of the angels that Benjamin W. Schmidt is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
