Patrick was a member of the 3rd Brigade Combat Team with the 10th Mountain Division. This was the second time that Patrick had been involved in an IED blast.
Family members said that Patrick believed his service in Afghanistan was not only protecting his country, but also protecting his family.

Others describe him as the "All-American Boy", who really loved his fiancee and his mother. Friends said he had a huge sense of humor and was always getting them in trouble at school.
Patrick was engaged to marry his high school sweetheart Joann, in August of next year.
Patrick is survived by many loving family members and friends including his mother, Stefenie Hernandez, father Patrick Lay Sr., two brothers and two sisters and Randy Maddox, along with his fiancee, Joann.
Let us pray to God the Father, Jesus, all of the saints and all of the angels that Patrick Lay II is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
