Spc. Joseph A. VanDreumel, age 32, of Grand Rapids, Michigan, died on August 14, 2011, in Paktika province, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained from an improvised explosive device.
He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 2nd Infantry Regiment, 172nd Infantry Brigade Grafenwoehr, Germany.

Joseph was a 1997 graduate of Jenison High School. Joseph joined the Army in January 2010 and was deployed to Germany in August of that year. He was dispatched to Afghanistan about six weeks ago.
He was posthumously promoted to corporal.
Family members said that he liked fishing and working on cars. They describe him as a fine man who did what he had to do.
Joseph is survived by many loving relatives and friends, including his wife, Sarah; his 2 children, Angel and Skyler; his mother Karen and father, Dennis.
Let us pray to God the Father, Jesus, all of the saints and all of the angels that Joseph A. VanDreumel is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
