Joe L. Cunningham

2nd Lt. Joe L. Cunningham, age 27, of Kingston, Oklahoma, died on August 13, 2011, at Laghman province, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained in a non-combat related incident. 

He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 179th Infantry Regiment, 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, Oklahoma Army National Guard, Stillwater, Oklahoma.

Joe Cunningham was a 2003 graduate of Kingston High School, joined the National Guard, then came to work as a detention officer for Marshall County only a few years ago before rejoining the military.

Joe enlisted in 2001 and deployed to Iraq in 2005-06. He was commissioned as a second lieutenant last year.

Friends state that Joe is a well-known and loved member of the community, and that he was ambitious and was achieving his goals. He is also described as enthusiastic and interested in serving his country. 

Let us pray to God the Father, Jesus, all of the saints and all of the angels that Joe L. Cunningham is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
