Spc. Jameel T. Freeman, age 26, of Baltimore, Maryland, died on August 11, 2011, in Kandahar province, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle.
He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 32nd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, N.Y.
Jameel Freeman arrived at Fort Drum in April 2010 and was deployed with his unit to Afghanistan in March.
He previously served in Iraq from August 2007 to April 2008.

Friends remember Jameel for his discipline and his devotion to his wife and two children. He is also described as courageous, a brave individual and an all-around good guy.
Jameel's numerous awards and decorations for his military service include the Army Commendation Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and two Army Reserve Component Achievement medals.
He is survived by his wife, Jennifer, and two children, Jameel Jr., age 5, and Jenessa, age 2.
Let us pray to God the Father, Jesus, all of the saints and all of the angels that Jameel T. Freeman is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
