Omar A. Jones

Sgt. Omar A. Jones, age 28, of Crook, Colorado, died on July 18, 2011, in Balkh province, Afghanistan, of non-combat related injuries.

He was assigned to the 126th Chemical Battalion, 92nd Troop Command, Nebraska Army National Guard, Wahoo, Nebraska.

Omar Jones was an electrician assigned to the 623rd Engineer Company based in Wahoo.

Omar enlisted in the Army in October 2001. In 2005 he joined the Nebraska National Guard's 134th Infantry Detachment in Crete and transferred to several Nebraska units in North Platte, Ogallala and Kearney. His current deployment was his third. He served two tours in Iraq.

Omar lived in Bogota, Colombia, for much of his childhood. He came back to America when he was 14 and enlisted in the Army when he was 18.

Family members stated that he loved being a soldier. He was a good soldier, a good husband and a very good man.

Military officials describe Omar as a very caring person who would go out of his way to help anyone. 

Omar is survived by numerous loving relatives and friends including his wife, Ava, son Malachi and daughter Airiana.

Let us pray to God the Father, Jesus, all of the saints and all of the angels that Omar A. Jones is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
