Matthew R. Gallagher

Spc. Matthew R. Gallagher, age 22, of North Falmouth, Mass., died on June 26, 2011, in Wasit province, Iraq, of injuries suffered while conducting a sweep of a building.

He was assigned to the 6th Squadron, 9th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

Matthew was due to return home in two weeks for a brief leave to celebrate his birthday. He was promoted by the Army to the rank of sergeant only two weeks ago.

Matthew Gallagher was on his second tour of duty in Iraq. He had spent about eight months in the war-torn country last year.
Father, lead Matthew to Heaven

Before enlisting, Matthew attended Falmouth High School and met his wife, Katie, while they both were students there. The two married last year and lived together in Texas, where Matthew was based before he was deployed a second time to Iraq.

Family members said that Matthew loved to spend time outdoors, snowboarding, skiing, boating, and mountain biking, as well as time with his friends. They also described him as mischievous side, intelligent and sensitive.

Let us pray to God the Father, Jesus, all of the saints and all of the angels that Matthew R. Gallagher is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
