Capt. Joseph W. Schultz, age 36, of Port Angeles, Washington, died on May 29, 2011, in Wardak province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device.
He was assigned to the 3rd Special Forces Group, Fort Bragg, N.C.

Joseph is described as a natural-born leader and top-notch. Capt. Schultz was a Green Beret and is the only child of Port Angeles resident Betsy Reed Schultz.
Joseph grew up in Sacramento, Calif., and Springfield, Ill., and graduated from the University of Oregon with bachelor's degrees in political science and economics.
Let us pray to God the Father, Jesus, all of the saints and all of the angels that Joseph W. Schultz is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
