John P. Castro

Sgt. John P. Castro, age 25, of Andrews, Texas, died April 22, 2011, at Paktika province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when his unit was attacked by small arms fire. 

He was assigned to1st Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Ky.

John Castro received the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal with Valor device; Army Achievement Medal; Army Good Conduct Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Afghanistan Campaign Medal; Iraq Campaign Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Army Service Ribbon; Overseas Service Ribbon; North Atlantic Treaty Organization medal and Combat Infantryman Badge.

John is survived by his wife, Delia Castro of Clarksville, Tenn.; daughter, Natalia Castro of Fort Benning, Ga., and stepson, Kamren Buchholz of Clarksville, Tenn.. He is also survived by his mother, Carmen Castro of Andrews, Texas, and father, David Castro of Odessa, Texas.

Let us pray to God the Father, Jesus, all of the saints and all of the angels that John P. Castro is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen
