The Tucson Murders...and the real tragedy of not intervening

On January 8, 2011, Jared Lee Loughner, age 22, blew away 6 people and wounded 14, in Tucson, Arizona.
Does anyone smile after
killing 6 people if you are
sane?

This man is mentally ill and will be sentenced ultimately to a secure mental institution. He will never be criminally prosecuted and he will never be executed for his crimes.

I am a Canadian and in Canada, because of financial restraints, shit loads of mental patients are released to live in the public domain. Alone and abandoned by our system.

In fact in my province, Manitoba, in 2010, we had an incident where a deranged man actually sawed off the head of a young man sitting beside him on a Greyhound bus. The killer didn't even know his victim. The killer was so "f***** up mentally that he has no idea of what he did and he never will. He will languish in a secure facility until death, entertaining his death fantasies but never really reaching a connection to reality.

And he should remain there forever, in order to protect the public from his delusions. This killer is entirely mentally ill and always will be a threat to society.

This American boy, Jared Lee Loughner, was known by everyone to be "out of scope" and odd and ill. And yet no one stood up in his defense and intervened for help for him before this shooting tragedy. His parents, his neighbours, his friends, his fellow students - all knew that he was troubled and headed for destruction. In retrospect - everyone knew he was a freak. But no one spoke up before this? Why not?

God help him and also his victims, including the 9 year old girl, whose life is forever finished because of the delusions of Jared Lee Loughner.

God save us from the freaks and their guns and knives. God help the mentally ill and give them the possibility of change.

God help our governments to come up with a real plan for the handling of serious mental health issues.

Does anybody really care?
